Research
The Myth of Urban Internet Availability
When the digital divide is discussed, rural communities are most often identified as lacking reliable internet & devices. However, over 200, 000 urban twin cities residents also experience the digital divide.
Through social media, our email newsletter with 500 subscribers, and events like the Community Connections conference in Minneapolis, Juneteenth in North Minneapolis, and The George Floyd Remembrance in South Minneapolis, we distributed a digital access survey. This survey was designed to measure broadbad, device, & technical assistance accessibility. We carried out this survey in East St. Paul, Midway, and North and South Minneapolis.
Additionally, we conducted one-on-one interviews with disabled individuals who were using digital navigation services supplied by a joint venture between Technologist Computers and the OBDI office. These are our results.
